  • Gothenburg District Court has found two documentary makers guilty of disturbing the protected grave site of the ferry M/S Estonia, which sank in the Baltic Sea in 1994 with the loss of 852 lives.

  • In a statement, the court ruled that there is a strong public interest in maintaining the grave peace around the M/Estonia, which is a burial ground for a large number of people, and said that the protection of the grave is stronger than the interest in the protection of freedom of speech and information.

  • The two Swedes had filmed the shipwreck using a remote-controlled vehicle in September 2019 and discovered previously unknown damage to the hull which revived speculation about the cause of the disaster.
