Lyssna: Sweden to offer credit guarantees to power companies

  • The government wants to issue SEK 250 billion in credit guarantees to Swedish and Nordic electricity companies to avert the threat of insolvency amid the European energy crisis.

  • Announcing the sum on Sunday, Finance minister Mikael Damberg (S) said the financial risk to the state and taxpaxers was “small”.

  • MPs, currently in their last week of election campaigning, have been called to parliament today to hold a vote on the government’s proposal. According to Swedish Radio News, none of the eight parties in parliament will vote against, with Elisabeth Svantesson, the economic spokesperson for the Moderates, currently the largest opposition party in parliament, saying her party is backing the proposal.
