Lyssna: Sweden and Finland write security letter to European Union

  • Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said Sweden and Finland have written a letter to other EU member states reminding them of their obligation to help an EU country if it is attacked.

  • The mutual defence clause in the EU’s Lisbon Treaty states if an EU country becomes “the victim of armed aggression on its territory” other members are obliged to help with “all the means in their power”.

  • The letter comes ahead of an EU summit later in the week in France.
