The Swedish Transport Agency says it is to look into Swedavia’s awarding of a security contract for its Arlanda Airport to a Chinese company said to have close ties to the Chinese state.

Swedavia, which operates ten of Sweden’s busiest airports, says the bid from Nuctech, which supplies X-ray machines, scanners and explosive detection systems, was the best and cheapest offer to upgrade its security scanning devices at Arlanda’s terminal 5 building.

But according to tabloid Aftonbladet, the Swedish Transport Agency is now investigating whether the procurement process and the awarding of the contract is in accordance with Swedish security legislation.
