Sports minister Anders Ygeman.
Sweden’s Minister of Sports Anders Ygeman wants to exclude Russian athletes from major competitions after the country’s invasion of Ukraine and is seeking support from the EU for a boycott.
Ygeman has been in contact with several ministerial colleagues in the Nordic countries and other EU countries to talk about the proposal that he intends to present to the Council of Ministers.
Anders Ygeman told Swedish Radio News that the “most important thing is that Russia’s aggressions cease. If the EU decides on a sports boycott, it can contribute to achieving that goal”.
