Social supermarkets in high demand

The need for charity food stores is increasing.

Lyssna: Social supermarkets in high demand

  • There’s a rising number of people on low incomes seeking membership to shop for cheaper food at so-called ‘social supermarkets’ in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö.

  • That’s according to Swedish Radio News, which earlier this year reported a surge in interest in shopping at the supermarkets, which are run by charity organisations.

  • The Rescue Mission in Gothenburg and Stockholm City Mission in the capital say they now need double the amount of donated food compared to earlier to accommodate demand.
