Neymar has joked that he was ‘drunk’ during Paris Saint-Germain’s recent 5-1 victory over Lorient, hitting back at criticism of his conduct in the French media.
PSG have endured a testing season this time out. Although they are set to romp to another Ligue 1 title, they crashed out of the Champions League in the round of 16, spectacularly collapsing in the second leg of their tie against Real Madrid.
Their so-called ‘dream frontline’ of Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi has failed to click into gear too, with ultras groups booing several senior players in the aftermath of the Real defeat.
Some media outlets have been particularly critical of Neymar. Last month RMC Sport‘s Daniel Riolo claimed that the Brazilian comes into training ‘in a lamentable state, on the verge of being drunk’.
Neymar responded to this jibe perfectly on Sunday, scoring two goals in a 5-1 victory over Lorient at the Parc des Princes.
After the game, he aimed a pointed comment in Riolo’s direction, posting a clip of his second strike on Instagram with the caption: “I was ‘drunk’, that’s why it worked… as they say around there.”
That brace moves Neymar onto seven goals for the season from 16 Ligue 1 games. He has also registered two assists.
