There is room for improvement in preventative work to counter hatred, threats and harassment against politicians in Sweden’s municipalities and regions.

The majority of them say they do have a system in place for how to deal with threats and hatred against politicians, but there is more risk-prevention work to be done, according to the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions.

“You stand and talk to voters and then all of a sudden a person appears who is very unfriendly and hateful in his arguments and then it ends with a real threat,” Norrköping councillor Sophia Jarl tells Swedish Radio News.
