Minister: "Very small minority" of power companies looking into tearing up fixed-term contracts


Minister for financial markets Max Elger held snap meetings yesterday following Swedish Radio News’ reports.

  • There’s been heavy criticism of energy utility companies that are looking into the possibility of terminating their customers’ fixed-rate electricity contracts, using a clause on force majeure.

  • However minister for financial markets Max Elger downplayed the situation at a press conference on Wednesday, saying it appeared that only “a small minority” of companies were considering the option.

  • Liberal Party leader Johan Pehrson says if it becomes apparent that this a possible way out of the contracts for the companies, then it is nothing but a scandal.
