Lyssna: Fewer qualified teachers in vulnerable areas

  • The Social Democrats pledged ahead of the 2014 election to attract the best teachers to socio-economically vulnerable areas.

  • But figures show that the proportion of teachers that are formally qualified, including a teaching qualification, has dropped in these areas since 2015 from 66 to 62 per cent.

  • That can be compared to a national average of 71 per cent.
