Lyssna: Experts: Sweden needs to be better prepared for violent weather

  • Sweden is ‘ill-prepared for the impact of climate change’, according to the Swedish National Council for Climate Adaptation, which in a newly published report, warns of the urgent need to adapt society to the effects of global warming.

  • The Council, which was appointed by the Government to evaluate Sweden’s readiness to cope with the many risks of climate change, has submitted its first report containing over 100 proposed measures to make Sweden more resilient to increasingly violent weather.

  • “There’s a need to look at this. I think people have looked at extreme weather as something that you cannot predict but now we know it will happen and it’ll get worse and we have to adapt,” Carina Keskitalo, vice chair of the Council for Climate Adaptation tells Radio Sweden.
