Russia can be expected to escalate its efforts to influence the Swedish population and decision-makers about Nato membership, several experts tell Swedish Radio News.
Wilhelm Agrell, a professor of intelligence analysis at Lund University, believes that the possibility of Sweden joining Nato is a high priority for Russia’s intelligence activities in Sweden – where it is both about influencing – and gaining access to information to try to predict the actions of Swedish politicians.
“Sweden’s choice of what line it takes in its security policy is the really crucial point regarding Russian influence and its influence operations in Sweden. In this area I think a lot will happen in the coming months,” he tells Swedish Radio News.
