Hanna Gunnarsson (l) and party leader Nooshi Dadgostar (r) from the Left Party.
While a large parliamentary majority voted in favour of Sweden sending arms to Ukraine, the Left Party voted against it, something which has caused a split in the party.
“We should do other things – send money and provide humanitarian aid and accept refugees”, says MP Hanna Gunnarsson, who followed the line set by the party board to vote against sending weapons.
But both current leader Nooshi Dadgostar and former leader Jonas Sjöstedt have said that they disagree with the party board’s stance not to send arms, and an extra board assembly has been called today because of the rift. Dadgostar was not in parliament for yesterday’s vote.
