Sales of iodine tablets in Sweden have increased sharply since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, according to the online pharmacy Apotea. Similar products are also sold out at other pharmacy chains.
Sydsvenskan newspaper first reported the spike in sales of iodine tablets and related products which help to reduce the damage radiation does to the body after a nuclear accident.
In response though, the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority has told SVT News that “there’s no reason” for people here to be taking iodine tablets linked to events in Ukraine.
